Marketplace spotlight: everything you need to know about Shopee
Payoneer has recently partnered with Shopee to offer easy, affordable payment solutions for sellers selling on this incredible platform. We conducted a short Q&A with Shopee to help sellers understand this unique platform and how they can make the most of it.
Shopee is one of the leading mobile e-commerce platforms in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. It is similar to the Taobao model, in which buyers and sellers can communicate and make transactions directly. What’s more, cross-border sellers from China and Hong Kong can sell to Southeast Asian and Taiwanese consumers on Shopee.
What makes Shopee different from other marketplaces?
- Mobile only, very socially-oriented. Sellers care about their Shop reputation and about accumulating fans, so that buyers have better shopping experience.
- No commission fee, no listing fee, but sellers can purchase paid ads at their own will
- Super fast growth, achieved $1.8+ billion GMV in the first year of launch
How can I achieve success as a seller on Shopee?
Big sellers who proactively study our local markets’ product trends and select the right products with competitive pricing do well on Shopee. Very good customer service attitude when handling in-app chats with buyers is also crucial. The more effort a seller puts into his/her shops on Shopee, the faster their growth.
Once my merchandise is online on Shopee, how can I best promote it?
Actively participate in our campaigns. In some of our markets (Taiwan, Malaysia) sellers can submit applications to join campaigns by themselves; this will soon be available in all our markets. In addition, we will have in-app paid ads starting January 2017, where sellers can bid for the key search adwords and get more search traffic.
What is your strongest buyer-base (demographically and geographically)? How can I best target them?
Our biggest markets are in Taiwan and Indonesia. Other than these, Malaysia and Thailand are also growing strongly.
Just dedicate resources to running your shops on Shopee, keep uploading high quality products that meet our market demands, and you will see the benefits.
