Expert Interview Series: internet marketing whiz kid, Sebastian Gomez

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Sebastian Gomez and I’m 20 years old. I live in beautiful Costa Rica and I’ve been living here all my life.
Ever since I was very little, I loved to sell stuff. From candy and chocolate when I was in 8th grade, to used things I had in my house.

When I was 15 years old I started working on a network marketing company. It really helped me improve my mindset and start learning about entrepreneurship in general. Nonetheless, it was hard to get people to join my opportunity because of my age. And the truth is, if a 15 year old kiddo (without results) would come to you and ask you to join his business opportunity, what would you think?

Well, that’s exactly what happened…

So I decided to look for other ways to make money, which led me to the Internet Marketing world when I was 16 years old. I realized all the benefits from this type of business. You could have time-freedom, location-freedom and make a ton of money by working from your laptop. It often seemed too good to be true… But I kept working hard to make it happen.

Currently, I’m a full time Internet Marketer specializing in E-Commerce, Facebook advertisement and conversions. I currently run several online stores where I sell physical products to people all around the globe. I have a fully outsourced team from the Philippines for each store that run the day-to day-operations of the business. As crazy as it may sound, I made my first million dollars in one of my stores in the first 12 months of being operational.

Though this sounds like a really fast success story, it wasn’t. Actually, it took me almost 2 years to make my first sale online after getting started. But I fell in love with the whole idea of marketing and worked on improving my skills on a daily basis.

Tell us about your educational background and career path.

I studied at an American high school called Lincoln School here in Costa Rica. I took the International Baccalaureate program which involved hard work and commitment. But let me be very honest: Ever since I was 17 I wanted to graduate from high school so badly. All I wanted to do was work on my business and learn about Internet Marketing. Moreover, at that time all the homework, projects and exams where limiting me from investing more hours on my business. I reached a point were I cared more about my business success than my grades on quizzes and classwork. Now, this might not sound very appealing to some people, but at that very young age I had already realized what I wanted for my future. I had an exact picture in my head regarding what I wanted to do when I grew up.

After graduating, it was time to choose a college to go to. All of my classmates where applying to some of the big universities you see out there. Harvard, Yale, Columbia, you name it… Sometimes, after hearing all my friends talk about their amazing college applications, I was attracted to go study abroad. Nonetheless, I had that voice inside me telling me, “Stay in Costa Rica, go to a descent college, and work on your passion. Make it happen.”

It was not an easy choice to make, especially because everyone was telling me to go study to the USA because of the opportunities I could get there. But finally, I followed my gut and stayed in Costa Rica where I currently study business administration in a college near my house.

I’ve been in college for over a year but my main focus is my business. I try to balance out my life so that I have enough time to get all the business work done, scale it, and maintain the growth. But at the same time go to college, workout, and have a good social life.

What drove you to start working online? And who do think should consider working in the digital world?

I never saw myself working in an office with 4 walls around it. I always imagined a daily routine that would involve waking up early in the morning, working on my business (my passion), going to the gym, training karate, watching a movie and then putting in more work. Generally speaking, I wanted a life where I could to whatever I wanted, when I wanted, where I wanted. Without having a boss telling me what to do and treating me like “just another employee”.

Another big reason why I decided to come to the online world and work so hard was to help my family financially. My parents have always been extremely supportive with my brother and I and I owe them a lot. I want to be able to provide them with whatever they want and give them money when they need it. And that’s exactly what I‘ve been able to achieve after all these years of hard work.

I’m proud to say I’m living my dream. Every. Single. Day.

Who would you recommend this type of work to?

I would suggest anyone who’s tired of working for someone else to start learning more about online businesses and Internet Marketing. Anyone who wants to be their own boss and open the possibilities to an amazing lifestyle that most people only dream of.

But I’m going to be extremely honest here. Creating a successful online business is not for everyone. In fact, 90% of people don’t make it because they quit too soon and are not willing to go through the learning process.

Like in any other business, you will need capital, time to invest and hard work. But if you’re willing to put in the work and treat this as a real business, you will be amazed of how much you can achieve.

What motivates you?

Honestly, I feel extremely grateful to be so young and have a business I can be proud of. Now I have this urge of giving back to the world by teaching other people about Internet Marketing and entrepreneurship. Which led me to creating my own coaching programs, consulting businesses and growing a big Youtube channel with tons of free content that people can benefit of.

Every day I’m motivated to become a better version of myself, a better marketer, a better son and a better human being in general.

How do you manage payments for your various enterprises?

Payoneer is an amazing platform for anyone looking to start their online journey.

It provides a simple and affective solution for people to accept payments from companies all around the world and transfer that money to their personal banks in their own countries. Personally, I’ve processed thousands of dollars through Payoneer and it really helped me in the early stages of my business where I didn’t have formal bank accounts and companies.
