As an rental host, you want your guests to feel as though they are appreciated and wanted, but you don’t have the resources of a five-star hotel. Fortunately, there are simple ways to make each guest’s experience memorable and enjoyable without spending much cash.
While your guests might spend much of their time exploring your city or taking advantage of the amenities in the common areas of your home, they must all go to bed at night. Furnishing the room in cozy linens and providing extra blankets in the closet will help make your space as comfortable as possible.
Consider taping a note to the nightstand or dresser that explains where all amenities are located. Guests might need to know the wife password and where they can find extra linnens, for example. This extra touch shows you care about their experience.
Whenever possible, meet your guests at the property and give them the full tour. Show them where they can find everything they’ll need and let them know about any problems they might encounter. For example, if the neighborhood is often noisy until late in the evening, you might want to provide a table fan for white noise.
Some people spend all their travel time shopping for local products, hiking in the mountains or at local museums, but everyone needs to decompress, even while on vacation. Stock your property with magazines, books, DVDs, and other media so your guests can unwind after a long day of sight-seeing. Provide instructions for operating any electronics, such as DVD players, so they don’t have to guess (or unwittingly damage your equipment).
Paper towels, toilet tissue, Kleenex, and other paper products are necessities that rental hosts sometimes forget. Your guests won’t appreciate having to run to the nearest supermarket to stock up upon arrival, so leave plenty of supplies for their use.
Other useful items, such as trash can liners and coffee filters, also add nice touches to your property. Think about how you use your home and what you can’t live without. Those items should reside somewhere in your rental property.
Is your favorite coffee shop right around the corner? Do you spend at least one weekend a month at the golf course ten minutes away? Leave your guests a list of neighborhood or community gems that they shouldn’t miss. If possible, leave a coupon book for area attractions or offer suggestions for saving money on public transit.
As much as you love an aesthetically pleasing room, you also want to be able to use it. So do your guests. Don’t laden your dining table with folded laundry or place chairs out of view of the television. Make every room as functional and lived-in as possible so guests don’t have to rearrange your layout or sit in discomfort.
Finding your stride as a rental host takes time, but if you genuinely care about your guests’ comfort, you’ll succeed in no time.
