Payoneer’s VP of Marketing, Jonny Steel was recently interviewed during the Payoneer Forum Manila by the ANC, a leading cable news channel in the Philippines. The interview focused on the current state of global freelancing and its e-commerce landscape and the fast emerging online workforce in the Philippines. Pioneers like Lazada Philippines are driving this market and creating an e-commerce environment similar to what we saw in Europe and the USA a decade ago.
During the course of the interview, Steel spoke of the increasing demand for Filipino freelancers overseas, covering a wide range of fields, including: Content writing, graphic design, and administrative work like virtual assistance and data entry. Due to the warm and friendly Filipino approach, good command of English and close affinity with US and European cultures, the Filipino online workforce has gained tremendous traction on the global freelancing stage. High quality production with great service certainly goes a long way in an era of mediocrity.
As both a marketing expert and serial entrepreneur, Steel also shed light on the expectations of employers and clients in regard to hiring online freelancers. One must understand that the market is increasing in both its competitive nature and size, and therefore, it is vital to stand out and be noticed at all costs. Steel advises to make a good first impression via a comprehensive online profile that highlights both skill and experience. Every profile should include an attractive picture and a strong portfolio of previously completed projects. Lastly, one must maintain a strong rapport with the client in order to build a long term and successful relationship. Read more on how to make your marketplace profile stant out.
The interview also touched upon the recently concluded Payoneer Freelancer Income Report, which surveyed 23,000 freelancers in over 180 countries in order to determine the following (and more!):
