Are You Part of a UK SME? Apply for a £2,000 Grant from HMRC!

Great news for UK-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)! You can now apply for a £2,000 grant from HMRC to help you navigate the post-Brexit import and export regulations. The grant, as part of the government’s SME Brexit Fund, are designed to pay for professional advice or employee training to help your business navigate the new regulations following the UK’s split from the EU. Read on to see if you qualify for a grant and what the funds can be used for.

Do I Qualify for A Grant?

Before applying for a grant for your SME, make sure you meet the qualifications outlined below:

  • You must be established in the UK.
  • You must have been established in the UK for at least 12 months before submitting your application, or currently hold Authorised Economic Operator status.
  • You have not previously failed to meet you tax or customs obligations.
  • Your enterprise has no more than 500 employees.
  • Your enterprise has no more than £100 million in annual turnover.
  • Your enterprise imports or exports goods between the UK and EU, or between the UK and Northern Ireland.

Additionally, your enterprise must either:

  • Complete or intend to complete import or export declarations internally for your own goods.
  • Use someone else to complete import or export declarations but require additional internal capabilities to effectively import or export.

What Can I Use the Grant For?

You can use the grant for training on:

  • How to complete customs declarations.
  • How to manage customs processes and use customs software and systems.
  • Specific aspects related to imports and exports, including VAT, excise and rules of origin.

Additionally, you may use the funds for professional advice so you can meet customs, excise, import VAT or safety and security declaration requirements.
